the roles of
doctors
Three tiers of doctors can be involved in
the treatment of injured workers.
(a) Nominated Treating Doctors
- These are nominated by the worker or their
workplace.
- They are general practioners, usually who
are accessible quickly, easily, have a full range of facilities, and have reasonable
billing facilities.
- The nominated treating doctor treats the
patient/worker, refers him/her if necessary, and determines the fitness and suitability
for duties.
- This doctor participates in the injury
management plan.

multidisciplinary Matraville Medical Complex located conveniently
near Matraville.
(b) Injury Management Consultant
- This doctor has training and certification
in workers' compensation and workplace rehabilitation.
- This doctor with his/her team will liase
with the worker, the workplace, the insurance company, and the different doctors and
specialists involved in the ongoing treatment.
- This doctor is able to compile a
back-to-work plan called "injury management plan".
WHEN staff are on the listing of injury
management consultants, as appointed by the NSW Workers Compensation Advisory Council on
09/12/98.
(c) Approved Medical Specialist
- These doctors are also approved by the
Advisory Council, as being eminent in their speciality.
- Their assistance is requested by the Injury
Management Consultant in cases of permanent impairment.
